He was still living at home with his parents in the 1930 census.
By 1940 he was married and living Minneapolis with his wife Flossie. He is listed as a riverboat deck hand (25, WI) and having completed 3 yrs of high school. His wife was a community nurse in Public Health (36, CAN) and completed 3 yrs of college. It says that he had been living in Wisconsin in 1935 and she in Jersey City, NJ and was naturalized.
He and wife Florence are listed in Minneapolis in the 1941 city directory, with him as a tankman, and her as a community health nurse.
Wife - Flossi, daughter - Betty (she and Mike Loken were raised like siblings until her family moved to Portland in the late 1950’s).

Rudolph F. Karnath
FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. - Rudolph F. Karnath, 66, died Sunday evening (Aug. 29th, 1982) in an Oregon City, Ore., hospital after a brief illness.
A former river pilot, he was born May 16, 1916, in Fountain City, to Capt. Rudolph J. and Ida Bensel Karnath. On Jan. 20, 1940, he married Flossie Tripp in Minneapolis, where they lived for 18 years prior to moving to Oregon.
Survivors are: his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Darrell (Betty) Ferchland, Oregon; one brother , Walter, Winona; one sister, Mrs. Elmer (Beata) Loken; Grand Repids, Minn.; and two grandchildren.
His parents, two brothers and one sister have died.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today in Milwaukie Funeral Home, Milwaukie, Ore. The body will be cremated.
