[Obituary]
Gloria W. Marchi, cherished Mother, Grandmother and Friend, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024, at the age of 93, in Menlo Park, CA surrounded by her family. Gloria was born May 12, 1931 in Salt Lake City, UT to parents, Stanley and Marguerite Walker. Raised in Salt Lake City, Gloria graduated from Westminster College, where she fell in love and married M. Wendell Brown, also of Salt Lake City, UT. Moving to Menlo Park, CA, they began their new life together and raised two beautiful children, Christopher and Wendy. Many cherished memories were made as a family over the years.
In 1981, Gloria was remarried to Vito Marchi. Together, they spent many loving years traveling, painting, dancing, enjoying music, opera and symphonies until Vito’s passing in 2000. True to Gloria’s nature, she remained passionate about life; finding joy by spending time with family and friends. With a great love for dogs, she volunteered as Animal Behaviorist at the SPCA for eight years and adopted several dogs as companions. She kept up with her hobbies (oil and watercolor painting, gardening, floral design, music and dancing).
A highlight in Gloria’s life for 30 years was being a volunteer of the Allied Arts Guild Auxiliary for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. She did floral design, creating many floral arrangements for the Allied Arts, Traditional Shop, using flowers cut from the English Garden outside the shop. Also a Pink Lady at Stanford Hospital, she faithfully did the display window design for the hospital gift shop over many years. Gloria’s children, Chris and Wendy learned so much from their Mom over the years; plant identifications, how to grow healthy gardens of flowers and vegetables, the love of music, the joy of dancing and the unconditional love and companionship of dogs.
Gloria is survived by her two children, son, Christopher Brown (wife Dina), daughter, Wendy Arild (husband Jens), Grandchildren: Christa Brown, Patrick Brown and Jonathan Arild. Also special to Gloria were Vito’s children: Son, Michael Marchi (deceased), (wife Laura), daughter, Suzanne Freschi (husband Lou), son, Christopher Marchi (deceased), daughter, Deanna Tanner (husband Dave), daughter, Jeanine Deitz (husband John) and son, Tim Marchi (wife Debbie).
Gloria loved life and probably would whisper to her family and friends not to be sad she is gone, but to honor her memory by being grateful for each new day and to live life to the fullest.
