Draft of an article on him from Wabaunsee Hist Soc: "John lived with his father and mother and helped manage the home farm. In 1896 he went to western Kansas by horse and buggy and filed for a homestead. He later returned to Wabaunsee. While in Leoti, KS he met his future wife and in 1901 married Susan Winifred Wing a school teacher at Carwood, KS. They lived at Wabaunsee after their marriage. They were members of the Wabaunsee Bible and Rifle Congregational Church. On 29 March 1904 their only child Frances was born and six days later her mother died and was laid to rest in Wabaunsee Cemetery. John's father passed away in 1907 and his mother in 1911 (his mother died at his house there - newspaper article). After having moved to New Jersey for a short time, he and Frances returned to Kansas. He passed away on 11 Feb 1924 and was buried in Wabaunsee Cemetery."
