Born in Deal (burough), Ocean Twp, Monmouth Co according to the family bible in possesion of Ida A (Conrow) McGehee. Listed with his family in Ocean Twp, Monmouth Co, NJ in 1850/60. In 1850 his family had Stephen Vanote (40) living with them as a laborer; probably an uncle! There was also a Daniel Van Note listed near a Levi Conrow in the 1840 census.
In 1860 he is listed as the head of household, farmer with $10,000 of land and $7,500 property, born in NJ with middle initial "B." His parents and brothers/sisters are also living with him, as well as Samuel VanNote - age 2. The next census listing is for the family of James (b. 1822) and Hannah VanNote and their 7 children. Marriage record lists him as Daniel Van Note Conrow (age 27) and Sarah Smock (age 28). They were married by James B. Wilson of the Reformed Church of Long Branch. He was living in Freehold Twp, Monmouth Co, NJ on 26 Oct 1877, when he received his $98 share of his father's estate.
He and his family lived in Freehold N.J. until 1880, when they moved to first Tipton Co TN and then on to Wabaunsee Co KS to farm. Gerry Livers said there are stories that the Cornrows drove a herd of mules (or horses) from New Jersey to Tennessee; where son William fell in love with Lena Faulk. And that probably the move to Kansas was for land.
1880 census shows him living in Tipton Co, Tenn. with his wife and 4 surviving sons. They also have a black woman and her child living in the household. Adjacent is the family of J. D. Faulk (father of Lena, who married his son William).
Their first home (in Kansas) was a two-story frame house built on a farm of 50 to 100 acres.
The 1885 State Census lists him (50) with his wife and 4 surviving sons. It shows him as a farmer born in New Jersey, who moved to Kansas from Tennessee.
The 1885 Agricultural Census for Wabaunsee Twp shows Daniel Conrow renting a 200 Ac fenced farm worth $4,000; of which 110 Acres was planted in corn.
He purchased 80 Ac in Wabaunsee, near the cemetery, from Silas & Mary Vassaro for $400 on 27 Apr 1886 and sold it to Tatom Coffey for $500 on 15 Feb 1892. In 1900 he is listed with Sarah and son John. Age 65, born Nov 1834, owner of a farm with a mortgage, married 39 years, with 6 children (4 living). The Cemetery listing shows his birth/death as 1834-1907.
