Family bible had her name written as Betty Joann, and another record listed Betty Josephine Ann (after her Aunt Josephine), but she went by the former. Her family story is that her father said the name was bigger than she was, and preferred the shorter one.

FRAZEYSBURG — Betty JoAnn Cooper, 84, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at her residence on her farm in Knox County.
She was born in Mansfield on July 21, 1930, to Frank and Edythe (Grice) Wells. She married Loring E. Cooper on March 14, 1947. She was a long time custodian for East Knox Schools, and also worked with her husband for the Census Bureau for many years. She was a member of the Bladensburg Church of Christ and the Pythian Sisters. She enjoyed reading, watching TV, and her dog, “Rascals.”
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and siblings, Raymond J. and Jason G. Wells, Juanita Hoffman and Thelma Richter.
Surviving are sons, Donald E. Cooper of Gambier, Roger L. Cooper of Howard, Michael A. Cooper of Rockbridge, Garry F. Cooper of Walhonding, Tom E. Cooper of Utica, and Ben D. Cooper of Gahanna; daughters, Nancy E. Broxson III of Tennessee and Sandra J. Graham of Chesapeake, Va.; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Pastor David Fowls will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be from 4-6 on Friday, and one hour prior to the service Saturday.

Loring E. Cooper
BLADENSBURG: Loring E. Cooper age 85, died Sunday morning May 15, 2011 at his residence near Bladensburg, following an extended illness.
Loring was born February 14, 1926 in Tiverton Township, Coshocton County to Carroll W. "Carl" Cooper and Julia Ann (Giauque) Cooper and had spent his lifetime in the Howard, Danville and Bladensburg areas. He attended school at Tiverton for the first four years then finished his education and graduated from Howard High School. He served with the United States Army during World War Two having served in Germany with the 69th Infantry and the battles of the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
Loring was a farmer all his life and he loved farming, dairy, beef and crops and always enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends. He was a member of the Bladensburg Church of Christ and the Danville American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty JoAnn (Wells) Cooper; sons, Donald E. Cooper of Gambier, Roger L. Cooper of Howard, Michael A. Cooper of Rockbridge, Garry F. Cooper of Walhonding, Tom E. Cooper of Utica, and Ben D. Cooper of Frazeysburg; daughters, Nancy E. Broxson III of Tennessee and Sandra J. Graham of Chesapeake, Virginia; 22 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Besides his parents; Loring was preceded in death by his brother, Gaylord Cooper, half-brothers, Alva Cooper, Wilbert Cooper and Chester Cooper; and half-sisters, Alice Brown and Vera Muck.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio, where funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. David Fowls officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
