Letter from Walter Ruttan says his middle name is Ruthoven? H.N.R. Genealogy shows birth in 1851, consistent with the census. 1857 is shown in the Ruttan Family History.
1865 census shows him with his family, age 13, born in Chemung Co, NY. He is listed with his parents at age 18 in the 1870 PA census.
Married Sara Jane Mansfield about 1880.
In 1885 he and Sarah (26, IA) are listed in the Kansas state census at Leavenworth-pg 581, with him as a mechanic (34, NY). His mother, Jane W. Ruttan is listed with them at age 73 (NC) and listed as a widow. He and Sarah are also listed as second time in the same census for Leavenworth-pg 205 where he is a laborer (33, NY), with only Sarah (27, IL) having moved there from Iowa.
Listed in 1900 census for Buchanan Co, MO shows him as 48, born Nov 1851 in Pennsylvania and married 20 years with 11 year old daughter Stella. He was working as a farm laborer, and listed as taxpayer there 1896-1901.
Lived in Topeka, KS before his death.
Edwin's grave is unmarked, but his daughter Stella May Currie has her ashes buried in Edwin's grave space towards the head area according to the burial card.
