John’s Civil War pension records state that she died on 9 Mar 1866 in Lexington, OH, not long after he returned from the military. But her cemetery records and headstone say 3 Mar 1866.

His surname is listed as Ramey, Remmey, Remmy and Remmer in various records. It is Ramey on their marriage record.
He enlisted on 10 Sep 1861 into Ohio 1st Light Artillery Battery D on 17 Oct 1861. On 24 May 1864 he was captured by the Confederates at Kingston, GA and sent to Andersonville Prison. Mustered out on 20 Jun 1865 at Camp Chase, OH.
No documentation has been found to indicate whether he was divorced or widowed, but after returning from the Civil War he then married (Sarah) Elizabeth Doty on 13 April 1869 in Ashland Co, OH.
By 1870 he had migrated to Allen Co, IN where he is listed as Frederick Ramey (38, Nasau) with Elizabeth (26, OH) and son (Robert) Wallace (9, OH). Joseph Rollins (42, PA) a carpenter was living with them.
In 1880 he is listed as John F. Remmy (48, Nassau) a farmer with his second wife Sary E. (36, OH) and daughter Edith A. (5, IN) from this second marriage.
John Remmer is listed in 1900 as age 68, born Dec 1831 in Germany, having immigrated in 1852 and naturalized, a retired farmer. Wife Sarah was born Dec 1843 in Ohio and they had been married 31 yrs. Living with them was the family of daughter Edith (Dec 1874, IN), husband Harry L. Botteron (Mar 1873, IN) married 5 yrs, and daughter Mable D. (Jul 1898, IN).
Both his second wife, and daughter Edith Botteron are also buried in Bowers Cemetery.
