The Murphy family history chapter of Fidler Lore from (Gladys) Eulala Durbin Woodward says that they came to America about 1800 and brought furniture including a cherry dropleaf six-leg table. The table was owned by Eulala, who had it refinished twice to restore its beauty.
What appears to be him is listed in 1820 Jefferson Co, OH as 1 male 26-45, 1 female <10 and another 26-45.
1830 census lists the family as:
male: 1<5, 1=20-30, 1=40-50 female: 1=10-15, 1=40-50
Listed near him is Jeremiah Gaddis with 1 male <5, himself 20-30, and a wife 15-20 who must have been recently married with a newborn.
The 1840 census record shows them living next to thier son David with:
male: 1=10-15, 1=50-60 female: 1=50-60
It lists him as being in agriculture.
Listed in 1850 as a farmer with $2,500 worth of land. A letter written by his wife in 1851 to her brother James in Ireland mentions Henry's brother Charles Gaddis, who is in Ireland.
Cemetery record says he died 31 Jan 1858 at age 75 yrs, 19 days.

Her parents died in 1811 and 1812. A letter from her brother John to her brother James in 1827 mentions that Mary is troubled with asthma, and that Henry Gaddis has a good farm of 160 acres - 40 improved which is about 70 or 80 miles from Samuel (Carr). Mary's letter to her brother Samuel dated 20 May 1835 states that they are living on the 166 acre farm which was purchased when they arrived 9 years ago (1826). Their son, David has half the land and 2 children. Cemetery record says she died 8 Dec 1857 at age 74 yrs, 8 mos, 23 days. Family records from Ernestine Gaddis say 16 March for her birth. Jeanne Hillman says family info indicates she is a twin. This was verified by the Kerr family letters/records obained by Jeanne, which show Jane as her twin sister.
