Spelled as Lavina on birth records and Lavinia elsewhere and Levina in the 1870 census and on her headstone.
She is listed at age 10 as an at-home servant in the 1880 census with the family of Iden Ball (75) and his sister Caroline, along with his grandson Iden Morgan (22). Unclear what her relationship is, if any.
When she married at the age of 16, it was Reuben Mettler who signed as her guardian. She was known as Vinney by some of the family.

Mrs. W. E. Gordon, nee Lavina Wells, died at her home, 11 N. Norton street, early yesterday morning, of Bright’s disease, after an illness lasting for about a year. She was about 30 years old, having been born near Fredericktown, Aug. 7, 1867 (sic). She was united in marriage with W. E. Gordon, Aug. 9, 1886, and of this union five children were born, of whom three, Maud, Fred and Bertha, together with the sorrowing husband, survive her. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. W. E. Endly, will be held at the residence at 9 o’clock, tomorrow morning, and the remains will be taken to Chesterville for interment.
