David R. Mowery, 72, of Loudonville died Sunday afternoon, May 15, 2016 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was born August 27, 1943 in Ashland and was the son of Charles C. and Helen B. (Hannan) Mowery. David was a 1961 graduate of Loudonville High School and a US Army veteran of the Vietnam era. He was an employee of The Flxible Company and later MCI for 40 years until his 2005 retirement. David was a member of Hanover Lodge #115 F&AM for 50 years, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, and American Legion Post 257, Loudonville. He was a member of the Loudonville High School Football “Chain Gang” for over 25 years and on the pit crew of The Cowen Racing Team.
David was most at home in his workshop where he would create, design, engineer and build just about anything. He loved having “his boys”, (grandsons Sam, Ben and Dan), visit him in the workshop where the conversations would range from building things to all the important things of life that Dave could share with the boys. Dave was a very gifted upholsterer and loved to take something old and make it look new and beautiful. He recently made the street banners for the Loudonville Chamber of Commerce.
David is survived by his wife, Patricia I. (Wells) Mowery, whom he married Aug. 23, 1963; his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Andy Elgin of Lexington; three grandchildren: Sam, Ben and Dan Elgin; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Marilyn Mowery of Loudonville; his ‘adopted parents’: Maxine Leaman and her late husband, George of Ashland; and his special ‘adopted sons’. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Sam, John, and Charles Mowery; and four sisters: Freda Forrest, Joyce Young, Eleanor Bowers, and Patricia “Tish” Mowery.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 10:30am in Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville with Rev. Dr. Steven Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Loudonville Cemetery, with military services conducted by the American Legion and VFW. Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville where Masonic Services will be held at 7:45 PM.
