Misc. Notes
Bought 250 Acres in Bucks Co from William Penn on August 4, 1682, and was recorded on 2 Feb 1690. He sailed for America, with his son John Jr. and arrived there in late October, 1682 probably on the ship "Welcome" with William Penn. In 1684, he left John Jr in the care of friends and returned to England for his wife, Sarah Ashby. But when she refused to go to America, and with the persecution of Quakers easing, he stayed in England until his death there on 21 April 1706, and was buried in Burnhill Fields Burying Ground. Mrs. John A. Scarborough observed that Sarah may have been afraid of the ocean voyage, it may have been the easing of Quaker persecution, or that perhaps John Jr may not have been her natural son and she felt no urge to go and take care of him. After his return to England, he signed a power of attorney to his son, John Jr for all of his land holdings in Bucks County, PA on Oct 15, 1696 in the presence of William Penn with William Penn Jr being a witness.
