Elsey Wells
Services for Elsey Wells, 89, of 248 Hillcrest Ave., Davenport, are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial is in Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund. She died Sunday at Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport. The former Elsey Gayer was born Aug. 9, 1898, in Monmouth, where she married Delbert L. Wells June 9, 1923. He died in 1975. She taught at Sudlow Junior High School and Davenport High School during World War II. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Illinois, Champaign. She was a member of Alpha Omega Pi sorority and had been active in its alumni activities. She was a member of IR Chapter of PEO; a former board member of Davenport Lend-A-Hand Club; and a 43-year member of the Outing Club. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Dauner, Pinehurst, N.C.; sons D. Gayer "Bud," Bettendorf, and Richard J., Davenport; seven grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandsons.

He served in the Army in WWI from 15 Oct 1918 thru 21 Dec 1918.

Delbert L. Wells, 77, of 248 Hillcrest Road, Davenport, a former vice president of Mel Foster Co., died Monday at St. Luke's Hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hill & Fredericks Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund or St. John's Methodist Church, Davenport: Mr. Wells retired from Mel Foster, where he was in charge of mortgage loans and new construction in 1955. He was born in Monmouth, 1L., where he married Elsey Gayer in 1923. Mr. Wells was a former board member and chairman of the Scott County Home Builders Assn. and he was the state vice president of the National Home Builders Assn. He was a past president of the Davenport Kiwanis Club. He was a 50-year member of the Monmouth Masonic Lodge Davenport.
