Jay was an illegitimate son. He lived with his mother and grandparents in 1900 and 1910.
He was living with his mother in Bellville when he registered for the WWI Draft. Listed with his mother, Laura, and step father, Harvey Hissong in 1920.
He married Hazel A. Heffelfinger (1896-1971) , as Mrs. Hazel Edwards on 31 Dec 1922 in Mansfield. She is buried with him.
In 1930 he is listed in Ashland with his wife Hazel A. (34, OH).
He was widowed and survived by one step-son, Floyd Edwards of Ashland Co, five grandchildren and one great grandchild and was buried in the Mansfield Cemetery.
