Karen A. Casteel, age 81 of Marengo, died Thursday, November 21, 2019, at the Bennington Glenn Nursing Home. She was born on September 21, 1938, in Marengo to the late Richard M. and Anna E. (Carlson) Gaddis.
Karen was a 1956 graduate of Marengo High School. She had worked at Sanese Vending as a cook, had delivered newspapers on a route in Marion, and served as a hostess and cashier at the Farmstead Inn. Karen was a member of the Fargo Wesleyan Church where she was very active, taught Sunday School, and served as a Delegate to the Ohio Wesleyan General Conference. She loved being outside and caring for the garden and animals. She enjoyed reading and listening to music. Karen will be remembered for “Always keeping the kids in line”.
Karen is survived by her husband, Phillip L. Casteel, Sr., who she married on Sept. 22, 1956 in Fargo. Her children, Corinne Blank of Marion, Phillip (Pat) Casteel, Jr. of Coldwater, MI. and Kevin (Lisa) Casteel of Cardington; dearly loved by her five grandchildren; Ryan, Karen, Holly, Katy, and Kaylee; and one great-grandchild, Scarlett; siblings, Sarah (Walter) Plants of Columbia Falls, MT., Marilyn (John) Weber of Vandalia, and Richard (Laura) Gaddis of Knoxville, TN.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her infant daughter Phyllis Casteel, son-in-law Mark Blank, and brother Austin Gaddis.
Friends may call on Tuesday Nov. 26, 2019 at the Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center St. in Cardington from 11:00 AM until the start of the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Pastor James Brantingham will officiate and Karen’s burial will follow in the Marengo Cemetery.
