"Azariah C. Cooper was born in Beaver Township in 1841. He was reared on a farm and learned the carpenters trade. On 17 Sept 1861, at age 19 he enlisted in Co D, 42nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in which he served four years. He married Miss Lucy Gebhart, and is the father of eight children. " He is referred to in the will of his brother, John, as Eseriah P. Cooper.
In 1870 he is listed as a carpenter with his wife and oldest son, William. In the 1880 census he was listed as a school teacher with 6 children. In 1883 he was elected county treasurer, and was reelected in 1885. In 1900 he is listed in Caldwell, Noble Co at age 58 with his wife, Mable, David, Charles and Clara. In 1910 he is listed in Caldwell at age 68 and married 42 years. His wife and daughter (Clara) Josephine are listed with him. His death cert lists him as married, an office man. He had heart problems and died of a cerebral hemorrhage & apoplexy. Info was given by his wife Lucy. His probate lists his wife and heirs: Lucy + Wm, Alta, Nellie.
