Lived in Guernsey Co, OH and listed with his 6 daughters in 1910 census, although another child had died before the 1900 census. Listed as Grant, a Barn Boss for the coal mine in 1920.
By 1930 he had moved to Fairfield County, had his last daughter Evelyn, and was working as a farm manager.

Death Claims U.G. Black
Ulysses Grant Black, 81, died at 3:30 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Nash Shatto of New Concord Rt. 1 following a serious illness of two weeks. He was born near Bloomfield and resided in Guernsey county for many years. In later years he lived on a farm near Otsego.
Surviving are his widow, Lettie Bennet Black; two sons, John of Canton and Shelton of New Concord Rt. 1; seven daughters, Mrs. Lillie Welker and Mrs. Freda Shatto of New Concord Rt. 1; Mrs. Ella Beach of Adamsville Rt. 1, Mrs. Rheba Shatto of Cincinatti, Mrs. Mary Kern and Mrs. Faye Studor of Columbus and Mrs. Pearl Gamble of Thornville; one sister, Mrs. Mary Wells of Mankato, Saskatchewan, Canada; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. One daughter, Margaret, is deceased.
The body is at the Mock funeral home in New Concord where services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon with Rev. Calvin Gilmore of the Otsego Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Otsego cemetery.

Mrs. Lettie Black
Coshocton -- Mrs. Lettie Black, 84, of Coshocton, widow of Grant Black, died at 11:45 p.m. Friday at the Wynsor Nursing Home following an illness of six months. Mrs. Black was born at Bird's Run, Guernsey County on July 26, 1878, a daughter of Samuel and Phoebe Neely Bennett.
She was a member of the Bird's Run Methodist Church.
Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Lillie Welker of Coshocton with whom she made her home; Mrs. Freda Shatto of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Mrs. Ella Beach of Adamsville; Mrs. Reba Shatto, Mrs. Mary Kern, Mrs. Pearl Starkey and Mrs. Fay Smith, all of Columbus; two sons, John Black of Canton, and Shelton of Ft. Laudedale, Fla.; a brother, Dan Bennett of Cambridge, two sisters, Mrs. William Whittle and Mrs. Sarah Ford, both of Cambridge; 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Her husband died in 1952. Two daughters, a son, three brothers and a sister also preceded her in death.
The body was removed to Gibson - Bontrager Funeral Home where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday with Rev. Aaron Cunningham officiating. Burial will be at Otsego.
