Isaac "Otterbein" (whose original middle name began with 'A' ) was probably re-named for the Otterbein who was a bishop of the Brethren Church in America.
Listed as Isaac A. in census and Isaac O. in probate listing. After his parents died, he was always known as Isaac Otterbein, or "I.O."
LIsted in 1880 as a blacksmith (29, OH) with his wife Nancy R. (24, IL) and children Wm F. (5), Isaac A. (2), and Charles S. (1 mo).
Sept 24, 1968 letter from Earl Rogers to the mother of Linda Krause -
"I understand that Samuel B. Moats died young and also his wife. I do not know how all the children were taken care of, except that Andrew T. was taken into the home of his uncle, James Carmichael. Sometime before 1860, James Carmichael moved to Bureau Co., Ill. to work in the coal mines. Through word-of-mouth information from older relatives I was given to understand that James Carmichael treated his nephew, Andrew T. Moats, very abusedly, which resulted in Andrew T. running away from home at the age of 10. The next sequence of information I have on him is that he was working as a blacksmith in the town of Washburn, Woodford Co., Ill., where in 1879 he met his wife, Eva Merle White, whom he married that year. I have their original marriage certificate. I also have photos of both of them at about the time of their marriage. They had one child born to them in Washburn, Ill., namely Charles Glenn Moats, in 1880. They soon moved to Pleasantville, Iowa, where my grandmother was born in 1883. Then, shortly afterwards, they moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, where he started a business in the manufacture of bicycles. In fact, his oldest son, Charles Glenn became the boy champion bicycle rider of Iowa. I have much more information if you might be interested."
