In 1931 both Archie and Ruby died and the three children were taken in by relatives. Archie died of an infection after his arm was severed in a car accident and Ruby died of heart disease, with dropsy and rheumatism. Mary Day (Ruttan) Wintemute and Rev. Herb Wintemute took Lila, while Grace Rebecca (Ruttan) Barr and Rev. Malcolm S. Barr took Grace (Muirhead) and Norman Archie (Muirhead).
