Virginia Ruth Moats April 26, 1923 - November 28, 2014
Virginia Ruth Moats passed away on November 28, 2014 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Park Rapids, MN. She was born April 26, 1923 to Wilmer and Lillie Lennea (Hadlund) Buck in Council Bluffs, IA. She attended school there and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School with the class of 1941. She gained employment at Thomas Jefferson High School, where she worked as Registrar and Bookkeeper after graduation.
Virginia married William (Bill) Moats on November 27, 1945 at First Baptist Church in Council Bluffs. After Bill was discharged from the Army Air Force in 1946, they moved to Webster City, Iowa where they made their home for 42 years. She was a stay at home mom but when her secretarial skills became known, she occasionally helped businesses for short times.
She was privileged to be born into a Christian home and attended Sunday School, missionary meetings and Youth activities from an early age. Her involvement went from First Baptist in Council Bluffs to becoming president of the Southwestern district of the Baptist Young People’s Union, then president of the Iowa Baptist Youth Fellowship and served on the national council. When she moved to Webster City, both she and Bill stepped into service at First Baptist Church there. They later joined Calvary Baptist Church where they both served in leadership positions for many years.
They moved to Park Rapids in 1987 and were active in Faith Baptist Church (now Faithbridge) until health problems overtook them. Virginia was church Librarian for over eleven years. She enjoyed working with books and information all her life.
She is survived by two daughters, Janis (Roger) Henderson and Ruth (John) Clauer of Park Rapids, MN., two sons, James (Stephanie) of Columbus, Ohio and Robert (Laurie) of Moorhead, MN., nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband (2002), parents, two brothers, a sister and one granddaughter, Peggy Mae.
She will be lovingly missed by her family who rejoices in the knowledge that she is with Jesus and is whole of body once again.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Faithbridge Church in Park Rapids with the Reverend Marty Giese and Pastor Josh Hawn officiating . Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids.
