Married to Alice Murray (b. 6 Nov 1920 Baltimore MD). He enlisted 7 Jul 1941 at Fort George G Meade in Maryland for WWII and was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant from the Medical Service Corps. Prior to retirement, he was the owner of Donald E. Sporer and Associates.
Don has two sisters who died of cancer.
They had two children, Donna Lee Sporer Durland, Aiken, SC, and the late Joseph A. Sporer. They also have four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Donald E. Sporer, 98, formerly of Scranton and Lake Kahagon, Madisonville, died peacefully Friday at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Alice Sporer, who died Aug. 18, 2012.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph Sporer and Leopoldina Hirschler. Donald graduated from St. Mary's High School and attended the University of Scranton. Donald served in the Army as second lieutenant from 1941 to 1945 with service in the U.S., Hawaiian Islands and Saipan, Mariana Islands. Before his retirement, he was owner/operator of Donald E. Sporer & Associates.
Donald was a member of Church of St. Catherine of Siena in Moscow. He was formerly active with Holy Name of St. Mary's, the Blind Association of Lackawanna County, Boy Scouts of America Troop 42 and served on the board of Scranton Preparatory School.
Donald was a loving and caring father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend who was an avid Notre Dame fan, enjoyed the outdoors, watching PGA golf and spending time with family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa., Hospice of the Sacred Heart and caregiver, Jackie Patel for the wonderful kindness, care and compassion shown to Donald.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna Lee Durland, Aiken, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Roseanne Sporer, Scranton; granddaughters, Christine Hobson and wife, Amy Girimonti, Concord, Calif.; Michelle Sherman and husband, Rich, Scranton; Donna Sporer and fiancé, Rob Nitch, Scranton; and Mary Sporer, Scranton; great-grandchildren, Adam, Evan and Ava Nitch, Molly Sherman and Bodhi Girimonti; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Sporer; son-in-law, Kenneth Durland; sisters, Dorothy Briskey and Phyllis Smith; and brother, Joseph Sporer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Church of St. Catherine of Siena, 220 Church St., Moscow. Friends are asked to proceed directly to the church on Saturday morning.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Corey Brian Strauch Services LLC, funeral home location, 602 Birch St., Scranton.

Alice F. Sporer, 91, a resident of the Jewish Home of Northeastern PA, formerly of Scranton and Lake Kahagon, Madisonville, died Saturday, August 18 at Moses Taylor Hospital. She was the wife of Donald E. Sporer of Scranton. She and her loving husband celebrated 70 years of marriage on July 8, 2012.
Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Murray) Sullivan. Alice graduated from St. John’s High School and was employed during WWII by Glenn L. Martin Co. of Baltimore, MD. She also served as an office manager with U.S. Army. For a period of 15 years, Alice was employed by the Scranton School District as a teacher, nurse and dental aide, and also assisted with various school counselors. She retired in 1984. Alice was a member of the Church of St. Catherine of Siena in Moscow. She was formerly active and held offices in the Young Catholic Women’s Club, the Blind Association of Lackawanna County, Catholic Daughters, Girl Scouts of America, Marywood Mothers Auxiliary and St. Mary’s Alter and Rosary Society.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, her generous spirit and kindness will be forever missed by those who had the pleasure to know and love her. Alice is survived by her daughter: Donna Lee Durland and husband Ken of Aiken, SC; her daughter in law: Roseanne Sporer of Scranton; her granddaughters: Christine Hobson of Vero Beach, FL, Michelle Sherman and her husband Rich of Scranton, Donna Sporer and her fiancé Rob Nitch of Scranton and Mary Sporer of Scranton; three great grandchildren: Adam, Evan and Ava; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son: Joseph Sporer, who died on February 22, 2006 and her sister: Mary Haderman.
