A 1919 release from Advance Press Service states: ...." clerk and general office assistant from 1888 to 1892 with the J.M. Schoonmaker Coke Co. and later with the H.C. Frick Co. at their Redstone Plant in Brownfield, south of Uniontown, PA. In 1893, Mr. Nutt moved to Akron, Ohio where he purchased a jewelry store at a receiver's sale. Though he had no experience, he applied strict business methods in the conduct of the businesses with suceessful results. In the spring of 1897, he organized the Central Savings & Trust Co. which is one of the leading financial institutions of that city. In 1901 he was elected secretary and treasurer of the Savings and Trust Co. of Cleveland and has continued with that company and its successor. The Citizen Savings and Trust Co.....was elected president Jan. 1918...Mr. Nutt was a great factor in the developement of electric and interurban electric railways in different sections of the country. At one time being director or officer of as many as fifteen companies.
He took a prominent part in the formation of the Quaker Oats Co. and has been closely associated ever since with its management. The successful upbuilding of the Independent Telephone Business in Akron, Ohio is largely ascribed to Mr. Nutt...At one time he individually owned and operated the electric and power plants of Fort Worth, Texas relinquishing his ownership at a large profit when it was deemed advisable to incorporate to secure added capital on its securities for developmental purposes.
Even lumber business in Virginia and coal lands in West Virginia and Pa. attracted Mr. Nutt where he has largely interested himself..."
A 1928 political release, when he had been named Treas. of the National Republican Party, states "While never an active participant in politics, Mr. Nutt has been a Republican all his life. As a banker he has dealt with business men large and small. During his entire career he has held positions of trust, leaving one position to take a higher one. Mr. Nutt brings to the Nat. Republican organization a record of unimpeachible integrity and experience and ability in handling finances unsurpassed by any man in the country and an individual character that can be guaranteed by thousands of persons who have come in contact with him." In 1920 he became president of the Union Trust Co. He was the son of Adam Clark NUTT AND Charlotte WELLS.
