Hanna - William Hanna was born April 6, 1869, near Mt. Vernon, Knox Co., Ohio, and departed this life in the parental home, June 11, 1901 age 32 years, 2 months and 5 days. He was united in marriage with Miss Charlottie Mae Wells, Dec. 24, 1893. This union was blessed with two children, James William and Elsie Charlottie, but scarlet fever entered the home and James William yielded to its deadly powers Nov. 26, 1899, thus preceding his papa to the better world, 1 year, 6 months and 16 days.
The deceased and his devoted wife gave their hearts to God and United with the South Prairie Methodist Protestant church, Feb. 4. 1900.
Bro. Hanna leaves to morn their loss a wife and daughter, little Elsie, father, mother, three sisters, and one adopted brother, Martha J. James, Lucinda B. Leach, Mary D. and Emmel H. Hanna, and other relatives and a host of friends.
The deceased was a member of the Woodman Lodge and his wife of the Royal Neighbors, and a large number of both lodges were present to pay tributes of respect.
During the last year the deceased has suffered much, but bore it all with Christian fortitude and unmeasurables patience. While he was loath to leave his family, yet he expressed again and again his willingness and readiness to go and toward the last was very anxious to depart and be with Christ. He made all the arrangements for his funeral and helped his faithful and devoted wife to plan for her future.
His favorite song and one he especially requested to be sung at his funeral was "Ye must be born again." Truly a good man has gone to his reward, and we can truthfully say, those who knew him best loved him most. The funeral services were held from the South Prairie church, June 13, at 2 p.m. The casket was literally covered with beautiful flowers, the tokens of love and respect from the lodges and his many friends.
The funeral services were conducted at the church by pastor, C. H. McCorkle, using for a text Rev. 21:4 and at the grave by Woodmen, assisted by the Royal Neighbors. A very large and sympathetic concourse of people found their way to church and followed the remains to the silent city of West Liberty, and extended their sympathies to those who wept.
