Ellen spent much of her time after her husband’s death with her daughters Lucinda Belle Leech at LaVerne, MN and with Mary Dell Wells in West Branch, IA. She died at Mary Dell’s home and is buried in the West Liberty cemetery.

Following his mother’s death, he was taken by his sister Mrs. Sara Conley to Preston Co, WV where she raised him. King James enlisted in the Union Army at the age of 18 in 1862 and served in the Maryland 3rd Infantry, Potomac Home Guard, in companies E and K. He entered as a Corporal and was Discharged as a Sergeant. He was discharged after 3 years and 3 months of service when the war closed in 1865.
Two years after they were married, King James and Ellen moved to Knox Co, Ohio - coming to Iowa 8 years later, and living there the rest of their life. He is listed as James, a farmer, in Muscatine County in 1880 with their 4 children.

Mr. Hannah died today at his home in West Liberty after an illness of only a few days with the grip. He was 73 years old and an early settler of Iowa.
