Clayton first farmed and then had an automobile garage and was an Electrician in Duncombe, Iowa.
Clayton and May (Welch) Moats had children, Delos, Roy, Alma (Cameron) and Mabel (Will).
Clayton died from an electrical shock he had received 8 months earlier while helping install high lines going into Thor, Iowa for the Rural Electric Cooperative. They were told the power was off and he and another man were knocked from the high line.
He and May lived at Vincent, Iowa on the West side of the main highway heading South out of town. About one block South of where the community center is today.
