In 1930 he is listed as a farm hand with his wife Elma (42, IL) and 4 youngest daughters. They had a son that year on 9 Sep 1930, who died the same day, and is buried with them.
He is listed as farm laborer (60, IL) in 1940, with his wife Elma (53, IL) in Osage. Living with them is their granddaughter Delores Simpkins (3). They were living in Osage, but had been in Wenona in 1935, and both had 8th grade educations.
He suffered a stroke in 1965, and was in poor health after that. He apparently lived in Toluca, but died in the Washburn Hospital.
