Based on children’s birthplaces, he must have moved to Indiana shortly after 1840. He is listed there in 1850 as a farmer (51 KY) with his wife, 5 sons - Wm, Wilson, Samuel, Lemuel, and Albert; plus Sarah Spurgin (54 PA) his sister. By 1860 he had moved to Illinois and is listed as a farmer with $9600 of land and $1000 of personal property. Also listed are sons Benjamin, Wilson, Samuel, Henry and Albert.
He is listed as a farmer with his wife and nieces Nancy and Malinda in the 1870 census, adjacent to sons Albert and Lemuel.
