David stood bond for (his sister) Letitia Wells' marriage to James Stewart in 1831, and is a known sibling by family history. He apparently stayed in Kentucky when his father and siblings moved to Indiana about 1832.
His oldest two children were both born in Kentucky, indicating that he moved after the 1840 census. 1840 census lists him in Marion Co, KY with males: 1<5, 1=20-30; fem: 1=5-10, 1=20-30
Listed in 1850 census for Franklin Twp, Johnson Co, IN as: David Wells (39 KY) with his wife and 7 children.

She is listed as head of household, a Seamstress with her sons David and William in the 1860 Indiana census. She had $500 of land and had a child LaFayette Underwood, age 6 mos, living with her.
She is then listed as Katharine Wells in the 1865 Illinois state census, in Broullitts Creek, Edgar county with 2 sons.
In 1870 she had moved to Illinois, where she is listed again as head of household, age 50, with her sons James and William, and adjacent to her son David’s/Daniel's family. Also living with her are LaFayette (11, IN) and Charles (8, IL). It is not certain whether they were adopted, or grandchildren, etc. James is listed as a farmer, while Wm is listed as farm labor.
