His early records show his name as David up thru 1850. He is living with his mother in 1860. He was a Civil War vet - 40 IL Infantry Co. K. He is listed adjacent to his mother in the 1870 IL census, with his wife Eliza (21, VA) and daughter Mary E. (6 mos, IL). In both cases, and from there forward his name is listed as Daniel, rather than David.
Apparently listed in the 1878 - Embarass, Edgar Co, IL taxroll, but his son Riley was born in 1880 in the Indian Territory (later Oklahoma).
He is listed in Nebraska in 1900 as a widower doing day labor, with just his son Riley.
In 1920 he is listed as Daniel Well (76, IN) widowed and living in the Nebraska Soldiers and Sailors Home.
His Death Certificate shows him as the widower of Eliza Wells, and lists his birthdate and place as well as his father and mother’s names.
His tombstone documentation in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington Nebraska reads Daniel Lewis Wells 2/9/1843 - 5/25/1925 Civil War.
