Pearl A. Wells, 85, 428 Pearl, died Friday afternoon at Bartholomew County Hospital. She had been in failing health a year and in serious condition two weeks.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Reed and Jewell Funeral Home. Thomas Pickett will be the reader. Persons may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Mrs. Wells was born Aug. 19, 1893, in Columbus, the daughter of Arthur and Emma Wetzel McCloskey. She was married to Frank Wells in 1909 and he died in April, 1964. She was a member of the Christian Science Church (Church of Boston) and Columbus Senior Citizens. She lived her entire life in Columbus.
Survivors include a son, Arthur K. Wells of 2515 Maple, four daughters, Sarah Currey of 2836 Hawcreek, Frances Gould of 2935 Two Worlds, Dolly Shumaker of 2531 Arlington and Mary Alice Querry of Edwardburg, Mich.; a sister, Sarah Knox of Cincinnati, Ohio; and 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Wells, and a grandson, Ricky Gould.

Birth listed as Nov 1890 in 1900 census and on his draft registration, but 1891 in his Social Security records.
Living on Wilson St and listed as an agent for Standard Oil with his wife and two children in 1920 census for Columbus, IN.
By 1930 he had moved to J Street, Bedford IN and was working as a traveling Salesman for “ready to wear”, with his wife, son and 4 daughters.
In 1940 they were back in Columbus, IN and he was working as an Insurance salesman (48, IN) with his wife Pearl (46, IN) a son Eugene M. (15, IN) and daughter Sarah A. (11, IN).
He was apparently killed in a car accident.

A Cummins Engine company employee for 18 years, Mr. Wells retired recently and was self employed as a salesman for advertising materials. He belonged to the local Church of Christ.
He was born in Columbus, Nov. 13, 1891, to Simpson and Alice Kennedy Wells, and married the former Miss Pearl McClosky, Dec 2, 1909. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Arthur K. Wells of 2515 Maple street; four daughters, Mrs. Harold P. Gould of route 5, Mrs. Jack Quearry of Edwardsburg, Mich., Mrs. Robert Shumaker of 3531 Arlington drive, and Mrs. John Currey of Princeton, Ky.; four brothers, Charles Wells of Indianapolis, J.O. Wells of Peru, J.K. Wells of Sarasota, Fla., and Walter Wells of Houston, Tex.; three sisters, Mrs. Edna Kyte of LaHavre, Calif, Mrs. Mary Seelee of Connersville and Mrs. Basil Ailstock of Portsmouth, Ohio, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Reed funeral home. Reader Clifford Weldy of the Christian Science church will conduct the rites. Burial will be at Garland Brook.
