He moved to Port Hope in 1872.
He is listed in the 1881 Ontario census for Port Hope, Durham East Co (Div 3, pg 20) as age 75, born in the US, C. Methodist and of German descent. He is listed with his wife, Isabell who was 70, Scottish and born in Ontario.

Henry R. Wells (R?) born in the state of New York on 28 Nov 1805 - moved as a young man to Dundas County and farmed - leaves a widow and 10 living children - 5 girls and 5 boys - the youngest being E.V. Dryer of Garden Hill - he was a Methodist and a liberal.
He was originally buried Aultsville United Church Cem, Aultsville, Ontario, and his headstone was relocated due to construction of the Saint Lawrence Seaway.
