Misc. Notes
First listed in Cobleskill, Schoharie Co, NY in 1830 as age 20-30, with two daughters under 5 and his wife also 20-30 years old. Adjacent is listed Christopher Coons, probably the father of Henry Coons who later married his 3rd daughter, Angeline.
In 1840 he is in Cobleskill, NY and listed with males: 1= 40-50, 1=80-90 and females: 2=10-15, 1=30-40, 2=40-50, 1=80-90.
He and his wife are shown living in Richmondville, NY in 1850. Cornelius (52 NY) is a farmer. Listed with him is his wife Eve (44 NY) and daughter Elizabeth A. (7 NY). Listed next to them is the family of his older daughter Ann and Henry Coons, and nearby is daughter Christina with the family of Marcus Warner.
In 1861, he is listed in the Williamsburg, Ontario, Canada census as a laborer (62, US), of the Lutheran faith and living in a log home. With him is wife Eve (57, US) and daughter Elizabeth (18, US), just prior to her marriage that year.
Listed in 1870 census for Madrid, NY at age 74, a laborer born in NY with his wife Eve.
Reference in 1880 census to Cornelius in Madrid, NY where he is listed as 84, born in Ontario (parents also Ont.) and married to Ephe (75 NY) has been crossed out and in the column for occupation it notes that he died Aug 11 ‘78. This census confirms that he was known to be “from” Ontario, and both of his daughters were married there, as confirmed by the 1861 Canada census, which shows he migrated to Ontario and then returned to New York later in life.
