Misc. Notes
Listed as Ella on her marriage record.
"Ellen is said to have been the prettiest girl in Morrisburg, and a large framed photo of her in the possession of Don Wells bears this out. She had blond wavy hair, with bangs, and was surprisingly plump and healthy looking for a woman who was to die of consumption a few years later. There seems to have been considerable friction between the young couple, and it looks as if John may have left his family soon after the birth of the third child. His wife, distraught, without any means of support, and probably already well into her terminal illness, moved in with her father-in-law, Charlie D. Casselman, on the farm east of Morrisburg. After Ellen's death a few months later, the children were taken in by various relatives."
Nine months after Neva was born, Ellen died of consumption, and the children went to various relatives.
Children:
i) Frederick A. (1881-?) m. Lucille Baugh
ii) Ellen Rubena "Ruby" (30 Jun 1883) went to live with her great aunt Alice (Wells) Martin and Herman Martin in Morrisburg, and then went to New York. She was married on 23 Dec 1913 to Ingram Cross in Danbury NH, died 19 Sep 1955 in Iroquois, Stormont Co, Ontario - Grandchildren: Clarence and Albert Martin
iii) Neva Florence (Sep 1885-1896) – large framed photo in the possession of Don Wells – Neva was a sickly child, and seems to have had a defective foot. She lived with her grandparents and died of consumption at the age of eleven.
