Living with his brother John's family in 1880 Kansas census as a farmer (22, IN).
In the 1885 Kansas state census, he is listed as E. R. Stewart, a RR Station Agent (27, IN) with his wife Carrie (23, IN) and dau Gussie (1, KS).
Living as a lodger (42, IN) with the family of Allen Clark in Pueblo City, CO in 1900, working as an (Pony?) Express Messenger. Listed there again in 1910, married a second time for 3 yrs to Anna (23, NY), with sons Charles R. (20, CO) from first marriage, and Earl (2, CO).
In 1920 he is listed as E. Russell Stewart (62, IN) the Superintendent of the County Poor Farm in Dawson, OK. His wife, Anna Mary (30, NY) is also a Matron at the Poor Farm. With them is son Earl Glen (12, CO).
