He is listed as a farmer (28) in the 1860 census for Bullskin Twp, Fayette Co, PA with his wife Susanna (24), daughter Mary (4), and son William G. (2).

Jacob Porch received his education in the schools of Westmoreland County. He was a prominent farmer and stockman.
Both he and his wife are deceased and are buried in the United Presbyterian Cemetery in Cook Township, Westmoreland County. A part of the farm owned by Mr. Porch was donated for this cemetery. They were members of the Lutheran Church, and in politics he was a stanch Republican. To Jacob and Susanna (Harmon) Porch ten children were born, as follows:
(1) Mary M., married Jacob Roadman Campbell. Mary and her three daughters all died of diptheria in 1890 leaving her husbend Jacob and infant son Donald Graham Campbell. Jacob Campbell was later remarried to Hattie McConnaughey. both Mary and Jacob are deceased, and buried in Stahlstown,Pa.;
(2) W. W., who came to Johnstown in 1887 and was the founder of the Porch Piano Company. He maintains residences in both Houston, Texas, and Johnstown.
(3) Rebecca L., married A. C. Rodeman. They reside on the old homestead in Westmoreland County, where Mr. Rodeman is engaged in farming. (4) E. H., a physician, with offices in Philadelphia, resides in Atlantic Ctiy, N. J. During the World war Doctor Porch served as an officer in the U. S. Medical Corps.
(5) Minnie C., married L. L. Smith. She is deceased and is buried in Glen Dale Cemetery, Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. Smith resides in Los Angeles.
(6) George W., the subject of this sketch. (7) L. Clark, resides in the West. (8) Nora E., married Rev. V. Nutter, resides in Boston.
(9) Nettie I., a nurse, Washington, D. C., and
(10) John H., a veteran of the World war, resides in New York City.

Misc. Notes
Susanna Harmon was a daughter of Andrew Harmon (1805 - 1869). The Harmon family originally came from Germany and settled in Westmoreland County, where they were engaged in agriculture.
