In 1940 he was still living at home with his parents, working as an office clerk (20, IN) for an Insurance company.
He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School and attended both Indiana University extension classes and enrolled at Purdue where he was commissioned 4 July 1942 at Coral Gables, FL. He had been in Europe since the previous November, serving as First Lieutenant in US Army Air Force during WW II. Was in the 343rd Bomber Squadron, 98th Bomber Group, Heavy. He was Navigator of a bomber that crashed into another plane over the Mediterranean on 1 May 1943. Reported missing and listed on the Tablets of the Missing at North Africa, American Cemetery, Carthage, Tunisia. According to his military records, he is still MIA. He received the AIR Medal and Purple Heart.
