“He never to my knowledge used the name Charles but sometimes did use C. Roy Wells.” according to grandson John. Most records are simply under Roy.
After his father died and mother remarried, he was listed as a hired man (19, IL) working for John and Mary Babb in 1910.
Was living in Shelbyville and married to Pearl, working as a heating Engineer for the School Board when he registered for the WWI Draft.
In 1920, he is listed as a farmer (29, IL) with his wife Pearl (24, IN) and sons Harold (3 2/12, IN) and Everett (10/12, IN).
Listed in 1930 census as C. Roy Wells, a farmer (39, IN) first married at age 24, with wife Pearl (33, IN) first married at age 18. They have sons Harold (13) and Everett (11).
In 1940 he is simply listed as Roy Wells (49, IL) a farmer with his wife and son Everett, where is says he completed 2 yrs of High School.
