Listed with her parents at age 9 in the 1850 census.
By 1860 she had married and is listed as Martha J. Strickler (19, IN), a servant living with her husband and his parents.
By 1870 they had migrated to Sheridan, KS, where they are listed with two daughters.
In 1880 they were still Sheridan, KS, where they are listed with daughters Mabel (17) and Rosa (14).
She (69) and her husband (72) are listed alone in the 1910 census.

Martha Jane Wells was born in Franklin, Johnson county, Indiana, February 20, 1842. Died at her home two miles east of Norton, Kansas, March 24, 1912, aged 70 years, 1 month, 4 days. She was married to Dr. Jobn T. Strickler, in Indiana, April 6, 1860, celebrating their golden wedding in this city almost two years ago. To this union were born one son and two daughters, the son dying in infancy. She united with the Baptist church in 1860, when aged 18, and continued a faithful member until she moved to Delphos, Kansas, where that church had no organization. There joining the Methodist church she continued a faithful member until her death. She was also a member of the W. R. C. and various other orders at Norton. She leaves as close kin, the husband, two daughters (Mrs. W. M. Weikert and Mrs. J. W. Conway of Norton), a niece whom he raised from infancy, (Mrs Tina Wells Felker of Oconto, Nebraska), three grandchildren and four brothers. She leaves also in social relationship a boat of true friends.
