And in 1940 he is listed as a Manager for a retail coal company (52, IN) with wife Ruby K. (45, IN) and sons Paul (25, IN) and Charles E. (22, IN). He and Ruby both completed the 8th grade, while both sons completed high school.

[Obituary] Anderson Daily Bulletin - Tuesday, 4 Nov 1969
Mrs. Ruby Degolyer Wells, wife of Charles Wells, 2112 N. Lynnhurst Dr., Indianapolis, died Monday at an Indianapolis hospital after being stricken ill last week.
She had been employed here many years ago at the D & M Telephone Company. Surviving with her husband are two sons, Paul and Charles Wells of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Mrs. Burrell Wells of Anderson is a sister-in-law. Friends may call at the Flanner and Buchanan Fall Creek Mortuary, Indianapolis today where final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
