Death Claims Geo. Graeser - Secretary and Purchasing Agent of Heisey Company Ill Two Years
George E. Graeser, 62, secretary and purchasing agent of the A. H. Heisey Glass company, died this morning in the home at 58 East Church street, at 4:30 o’clock following an illness of two years.
Mr. Graeser was born in Brownsville, Pa., April 13, 1874, the son of Jacob and Caroline Heisey Graeser, coming to Newark in 1896 with the late A. H. Heisey, who founded the glass company of which Mr. Graeser has held his executive position for 40 years.
He was one of the organizers and with the exception of one year served as president of the local Charity Newsies since its founding. His only lodge affiliation was with the Elks. He was a candidate of the second class of initiates of the local order. In 1906 he was elevated to the office of exalted ruler of the lodge and for years served as secretary. Always interested in sports, Mr. Graeser in former years played with semi-pro baseball teams in and around Pittsburgh and with the old Elks team and Heisey club in Newark. Until his illness he was interested in local city and county politics, being a member of the Republican party.
In May, 1905, he was married to Anna Louise Speer, the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. A. T. Speer of Newark. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Robert A. of 265 Rugg avenue, and Richard G. of the home; a brother and sister, Albert and Barbara, both of Washington, Pa. A brother, Augustus F. Graeser, former secretary and treasurer of the National Billiard Manufacturing company died in 1935.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church of which he was a member. Rev. James E. Wolfe will officiate and burial will be made in Cedar Hill. Funeral directors, McGonagle.
