A Lutheran minister and bible scholar with a Ph.D. from Union Seminary in New York. Haakon J. Stolee compiled an extensive family history which stretches back many generations in Norway. He was one of twelve children, so the family tree is quite extensive.
in 1900 he is listed with his brother's family as a Salesman who immigrated in 1883 and was naturalized.
He attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota near Minneapolis 1905-1912 (A.B.) and United Church Seminary 1912-1915 (C.T.) when he was ordained. His pastor and ministry assignments were:
Dodgeville and Highland, Wisc. 1915-19; Sandpoint, ID 1919-22; Superintendant Coeur d'Alene Homes, Coeur d'Alene, ID 1922-26; Field Supt. He was listed as living with his parents for the 1906 Alberta census in Canada.
He immigrated from Norbo, Alberta, Canada via Winnipeg in Sept 1909, as a student heading for Northfield, Minnesota. His sister Alice Merrick (32) was with him.
In 1911 he is listed as a student at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Rice Co, MN.
When he returned to the US from Canada in May 1917, he was listed as a clergyman from Dodgeville, Wisc. and recorded as Haakan Stolee.
He registered for the WWI Draft in Sept 1918, while living in Highland, Iowa Co, Wisc. and serving as the clergyman for Otter Creek. He listed his name as Haakon Matthias Stolee.
1920 census lists him as a minister, who immigrated from Norway in 1886 and was naturalized.
On 18 Jun 1924 he and daughters Helen and Ruth crossed the Canadian border at Kingsgate, British Columbia from Coeur d'Alene, ID, heading to see his brother B. J. Stolee in Donalda, Alta Co, near Calgary.
He graduated from Camrose Lutheran College in Alberta in 1926, and was awarded the Augustana Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Award in 1978.
1930 census lists him as a Lutheran social worker, where he is indexed as Haakon Stoler, with his wife and 3 daughters.
1940 he is listed as a college graduate and teacher (58, Norway), with his wife Anna (55, Norway) and daughters Helen (21) and Ruth (16).
He was author of "Pentecostalism: the Problem of the Modern Tongues Movement." Minneapolis: Augsburg Publishing House, 1936.
He performed the wedding ceremony for his daughter in Minneapolis in 1945.

HAAKON J. STOLEE
Services for Dr. Haakon J. Stolee, 78, 3206 Holmes Ave, who died Monday, will be at 2 p.m. tnday in Jerusalem Lutheran church, witn burial in Hillside cemetery. Dr. Stolee was a retired minister and teacher of the Evanjelical Lutheran church and a former member of its board of charities. Dr. Stolee, a native of Norway, served congregations in Dodgeviile, Wis, and Sandpoint, Idaho, and was superintendent of a home for the aged in Coeur d'AIene, Idaho. He taught at Lutheran Bible Institute, Minneapolis, from 1930 to 1945 and at the institute's branch in Seattle, Wash, until 1955 when he retired. He returned to Minneapolis in 1958. Survivors include his wife, Anna; three daughters, Mrs. Percy Larson and Mrs. Raymond (Ruth) Johnson, both of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Clarence Solberg, Green Bay, Wis, and a brother, Knut, Vancouver, Wash. Memorials are preferred to Lutheran Bible Institute. The body will be at Werness Brothers chapel at 3 p.m. today and at the church one hour before the service.
