An inurnment service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997, in Vernonia Cemetery for Martha Rhoda Wells, who died Aug. 8 at age 66. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in First Christian Church in Vernonia.
Mrs. Wells was born Nov. 10, 1930, in Estacada. Her maiden name was Wells. She was a graduate of Vernonia High School and was a caseworker for the Oregon Department of Adult and Family Services until she retired in 1994. She was a founding member of Housing Our Families and a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church gospel choir.
Survivors include her sons, Bruce A. Botkin of Forest Grove and Benton Wells Botkin (1962-2013) of Wasilla, Alaska; daughter, Beverly F. LaCasse of Bothell, Wash.; brothers, Lester L. Wells of Vernonia and William O. Wells of Portland; sisters, Ruby F. Ifversen of Waipahu, Hawaii, and Patricia K. Adsit and Margaret A. Wells, both of Newport; special friends, Alberta Simmons of Portland and Elspeth J. Peters of Rockaway; and one grandson.
Arrangements are by Bateman Funeral Home in Newport and Fuiten-Rose Memorial Chapel in Vernonia.
