Mrs Mary Wells
EVANSVILLE Ind — Mrs Mary Wells 70 of Carmi 111 died at 4:40 pm Monday at St Mary’s Hospital in Evansville after a brief illness. The Butler County native was a nurses aide at the Carmel Township Hospital and was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Thomas Neighbors. Graveside service will be at 2 pm Thursday at Cook Cemetery in Butler County. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. Survivors include three sons Steven Wells of Mt Vernon, IN; Keith Wells of Marion, IN; and Len Wells of Grayville, IN.

MOUNT VERNON, Ind. — Bessie E. Wells, age 86, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Deaconess Hospice Care Center. She was born August 9, 1921, in New Haven, IN., the daughter of the late Samuel I. and Hattie (Poole) McNeil.
She was a homemaker and was a member of VFW in Carmi, Ill., and the American Legion, Eagles, Moose Auxiliaries; and Welborn United Methodist Church, all in Mount Vernon, Ind. She enjoyed fishing.
Bessie was preceded in death by her father in 1961, her mother in 1966, her first husband of 22 years Walter S. Kirkpatrick in 1958, her second husband of 30 years Homer E. Wells in 1997, her two sons Robert Kirkpatrick in 1997 and John Kirkpatrick in 1969, her granddaughter Lisa Gumbel Lee in 2007, her two great-grandsons Nicholas Charles Petty in 1994 and Zachary Paul Lee in 1998, her two brothers Rudolph McNeil in 1973 and Charles McNeil in 1999, and her two sisters Jessie Mingus in 1994 and Hazel Boyer in 2003.
She is survived by her daughter Loretta Englebright, her daughter-in-law Patricia Crowdus and her husband Doug, all of Mount Vernon, Ind., her three stepsons Steve Wells of Evansville, Ind., Keith Wells of Wentzville, Mo., and Len Wells of Fairfield, Ill. Bessie is also survived by her five grandchildren Robert, Stevan, and Timothy Kirkpatrick, Keely Winiger, Brian Petty and stepgrandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main Street, Mount Vernon, Ind., with the Rev. Tom Buffington officiating, with burial at Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, February 11, and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. There will be a Women of the Moose memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Deaconess Hospice Care Center.
