Charles D. Hill, age 85, of Fredericktown, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 19, 2016 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on March 24, 1931 in Minerva, Ohio the son of Charles and Pearl (Cooper) Hill.
Charles served in the United States Army during the Korean War and on January 20, 1953 proudly escorted on the Honor Guard for the Dwight D. Eisenhower parade. In 1956 he earned his B.S. in Physical Education from Western State College in Colorado where he also earned All American basketball honors. Charles later earned his Master Degree in Education from Colorado University and received his principal certificate from Xavier University.
Charles taught and coached at numerous high schools in Ohio including, Howard High School, Mount Vernon, Circleville, Danville and later served as principal of the Knox County Joint Vocational School. He was a member and referee for the Ohio High School Athletic Association and in 1994 was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Charles was also a member of the Ohio State Teachers Association, Colonial City Moose Lodge and attended Palmyra Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife Vivian (Gaddis) Hill, whom he married on June 13, 1981; his children, Michael (Laraine) Hill, Kelly (Deborah) Hill, Lee Ann (James) Hoobler, Elaine Wilson, Karen (Mark) Polzinetti; nine grandchildren, Jeromy (Mishara) Hill, Adam Peters, Kaitlyn (Chris) Schuler, Erica (Chad) Taylor, Shawn Johnson, Natalee Johnson, Gabrielle Diaz, Eric Diaz, Jacob Polzinetti; two great grandchildren, Isabella Peters and Addison Taylor.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sister Jean Hall.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Palmyra Church of Christ, 21184 Zolman Road, Fredericktown, Ohio 43019 where a Celebration of Life service and military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will begin at 6 p.m. Evangelist Troy Northrop will be officiating.
