His marriage record lists his parents as Abraham (Carter) and Ida Schiller.
His naturalization and WWII draft record list his birth as 1 May 1894. The later Passport, cemetery record and SSDI says he was born 1 May 1891.
Feivel acted as the partriach of the family’s second group of children, who came over to America on 5 Sept 1921. He was listed on the passenger list as Fawel Kartorzynska (30, POL) when he arrived with the family, knowing Hebrew and Russian, and being able to read and write English. But his sister Sonja had a cough and wasn’t admitted, so he returned to Europe with her on the SS Mount Cloud, and they immigrated again, as Fajwel (Feival) Kartorzynski on the SS Stockholm from Gothenburg, Sweden to New York in November 1921.
His naturalization declaration as Phil Carter on 29 May 1925 says he was living in Brooklyn, unmarried, and arrived from Gothenburg, Sweden on the Stockholm on 3 Nov 1921. He was described as fair complexion, 5’4”, 144 lbs, brown hair and blue eyes.
In 1925 he is listed in the Brooklyn state census as Philip Carter (26, RUS) along with his 4 sisters and brother who he brought with him from Poland in 1921.
He was naturalized on 26 June 1928, shortly before his marriage to Shirley Edelstein in December 1928, and by 1930 they are listed in Brooklyn with Phillip working as a storekeeper (31, RUS) in a hardware store, having immigrated in 1921. They had a son Abraham H. (3 mos, NY).
In 1940 he is listed as Phillip Carter (40, RUS) a mechanic in a hardware store, with his wife and 2 sons (9 &3), Abraham apparently having died. His WWII draft registration shows them living at 1529 St John’s Place in Brooklyn, with his brother Irving also there.
He had a hardware and housewares store, that they lived above.
Same info in 1950, where he is listed as the proprietor of the hardware store (50, RUS) with his wife and two sons. Living with them was his widowed mother-in-law Pearl Edelstein (81, RUS).
Buried in the Korelitzer Society section of the Mt Judah cemetery in NY, along with his wife and step-mother.
