Married a second time, after his first wife died. The children and his second wife, Ida, came over in two groups in 1903-1913 and 1921; Avram was elderly, had arthritis, and stayed behind. The first set of children to immigrate were literate, while the second set were not.
According to Hal, and Max’s marriage record, his name was Abraham Kartusinsky (wife Nittie) and he was a banker or money lender and a successful businessman with enough money to send his children to America. Other family stories say he was a tailor and an engineer.

Ida was first listed as Khayka Shliomovitch Sinensky at age 5 in the 11 Jul 1874 Belarus Revision list, then as Chaja Kartorzynska age 48 (b. 1873) when she immigrated in 1921 and with her brother listed as Josef Simienski of Nies Plisa, Nowogrodski, then as 50 (1875) in 1925 census, and 50 (1880) in the 1930 census, and age 54 (1878) on her death record.
She and her children lived on a dairy farm near Negnewicze, Poland (now Belarus) before emigrating to the US aboard the SS Mount Cloud from Hamburg. It sailed on 21 Aug 1921 and arrived in New York on 5 Sep 1921. With her, as Chaja Kartorzynska (48) were Fawel (30), Anna (17), Etarea (15), Musea (13), Sonia (11) and Icek (9). It said their last residence was in Obiadowo, and her departing contact was her brother Josef Semienski of Wies Plisa, Nowogrodski (Navahrudak/Nowogrodek).
They are all listed together in the 1925 census for Manhattan, where Ida (50, RUS) is listed as their mother, next door to the Schiller’s and Usdansky’s.
They may have started out by living with Max in NYC, just before he remarried and moved to Reno.
She is listed in 1930 as Ida Carter (50, POL), a widow, living on Sterling Pl in Brooklyn, not naturalized or working, with her son Irving, daughter Ester, and married daughter Anna. Says she was first married at age 18. Her death record lists her parents as Philip and Anna Schuler (sic Schiller)
Her death record lists 19 Mar 1932, while the cemetery shows 20th of March (which may be burial date)
Buried in the Korelitzer Society section of a cemetery in NY, along with son Feivel.
