He had filed for naturalization by 1930.
Listed as Phllip Horowitz (25, RUS) in 1930, married to May Horowitz (23, RUS) with son Abraham (3, NY) and daughter Frances (1.5, NY). It says he immigrated in 1920 and had filed citizenship papers. He was a silk salesman at the time.
Philip was living in Brooklyn when he registered for the draft in 1940. It says he was born in Bialystock, Russia in August 1905. He was working for Herman Kritcher, and listed Mr. & Mrs. Fred Schuster as friends who would have his address. He was still a Russian citizen at the time.
Aftet his divorce from May, he was remarried in New Jersey to Frieda (Tendler) Birnbaum in 1944 and had a daughter Linda.
Phil is listed in the 1950 Bronx census as a textile salesman (45, RUS) with wife Frieda (39, RUS) and daughter Linda (4, NY). Both he and Frieda are listed as having US citizenship.

Listed as Musea Kartorzynski (13) when she immigrated with her mother and siblings in 1921.
Her birth date is listed as 15 Aug 1906 on Social Security records and as same date in 1907 on Calif Death index, but as 15 Aug 1905 in a family record that Francis Zavis has.
Married 26 Jan 1926 in New York City to Phlilp Horowitz as May Carter.
Listed as May Horowitz (23, RUS) married to Phllip Horowitz (25, RUS) in 1930, with son Abraham (3, NY) and daughter Frances (1.5, NY).
Not sure of the reason (separation?), but her children were in an orphanage in 1933.
Then listed in New York City in 1940 as Mae Horowitz (32, RUS), with only her son Herbert (13) and daughter Frances (11) plus two roomers. It shows her as married, but no husband - so apparently separated, and later divorced.
She was naturalized on 14 March 1944 in New York.
By 1950, May (42, POL) was divorced and living in Los Angeles with her two children, Abraham (23, NY) and Frances (21, NY).
May married Louis Shefflin (1901-1974) in California in 1950, and marriage records list her as May and Mae under both Horowitz and Carter. They were divorced and she re-married him in 1972, shortly before his death. Family recollection is that they remarried in order for May to take advantage of Lou Shefflin’s pension benefits.
Her death record there in 1994, lists her maiden name as Carterinski, and includes her birth date.
