Mr. Nelson Casselman
On Tuesday the citizens of Morrisburg learned of the death of another of its oldest and most highly respected citizens In the person of Mr. Nelson Casselman. Although Mr. Casselman had not been in robust health for some time, his condition only became serious three weeks ago.
The late Mr. Casselman was born in East Williamsburg, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Warner Casselman and was in his 85th year.
About 30 years ago he came to Morrisburg, where he has lived in retirement.
He was twice married, his first wife being Elizabeth Harkness, who predeceased him 13 years ago on 5 June 1927. On August 9, 1927 he was married at Lunenburg to Lucinda Margaret Winters Werley, daughter of Aaron Winters and Jane Fetterly. who survives.
The funeral was held at his late residence on Beckstead St. on Thursday at 2 p.m. Rev. J. A. Payton was in charge of the service. Hymns sung during the service were “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” and “Abide with Me”. A solo by Mrs. Edward Mullin - “Sometime, Somewhere, We’ll Understand” was nicely rendered.
The remains were placed in the vault to await burial in the spring in the family plot on his father’s farm in East Williamsburg. The pall bearers were Messrs. Walter Beckstead, Frank Stain, Wm. Hummel, and Wm. Dawson.
Among those from a distance at the funeral were: Mrs. Charles Werley and son Earl, Mr. and Mrs. David Werley of Norfolk, NY; Mrs. McMillan, Mrs. Trueman Price, Miss Bessie Myers of Cornwall; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Casselman, Mr. Wilbert Casselman and Mrs. Harper of East Williamsburg.
He is survived by his widow, one brother, Mr. Frank Casselman of East Williamsvurg, and two sisters in New York State.
