[Obituary] Palacios Beacon - 7 Aug 1930
H. L. Moore, who died in this city Friday, August 1 at 2:15 A. M., was born in lowa, October 19, 1858, moving to Missouri with his parents when quite young and where he grew to manhood. He was twice married and six children were bom to the first marriage, five of whom are still living. On 5 May 1906 he was married to Mrs. Luella Peterson at Enid, Okla., who survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Moore came to Palacios from Oklahoma in 1913, and Mr. Moore soon became known as an expert brick-mason also paper hanger and many of our buildings stand as evidence of his work. About a year and a half ago Mr. Moore's health began to fail and a change of climate was suggested, hoping it would be beneficial. Sixteen months were spent in New Mexico, where he and Mrs. Moore traveled and visited. Two weeks ago they returned to Palacios and Mr. Moore was planning to soon be able to return to his work, purchasing quite a lot of new brushes, etc. it was known he was not well, yet his death was unexpected and a shock to all. The deceased had been a member of the Baptist church since early in life and was very true to its faith and teachings. Funeral services were held in the B. Y. P. U. grounds Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. A. Derrick, pastor of the Baptist church at New Gulf, assisted by Rev. Carroll Be. Ray of the First Baptist Church. The remains were then taken to the city cemetery for interment. Palacios people extend sympathy to the bereaved wife, children and other relatives and friends.
