Misc. Notes
Naturalization papers list his name as Isaak Moisewitch Kartojinsky when he immigrated. Most later records list him as George M. Carter.
He first immigrated in 1923, but only used his later immigration from Mexico for his naturalization petition. It is unclear what name he first immigrated under or why he chose not to refer to that for naturalization.
His naturualization papers list their marriage as 20 Sept, while the California records show it as 23 Sept.

He submitted his declaration on 28 Jul 1939 and his naturalization petition on 1 Sep 1942.
The 1940 census shows him as a merchant of wholesale and retail hardware (44, RUS), and lists his wife and son as well as Frieda Levin (30, CA), his sister-in-law.
Listed in 1950 as proprietor of Acme hardware, with his wife Josephine (43, CA) and son Richard (17, CA). Acme was the first high end decorative plumbing and hardware showroom; and the business closed back in the early eighties.
Granddaughter Debra said “George always seemed to be helping other Russians come to California, and I remember him always sending Levi jeans to them as well.”
George had a second marriage to Estella “Stella”.
His social security record lists his mother’s maiden name as Rudnick, in contrast to
