Arrived in New York on 25 Mar 1932 aboard the SS Roma from Villefranche. She was listed as 3 yrs old, and a US citizen by virtue of her father being born in California. It lists their last residence as Nice.
Listed with her parents in 1940.
Then as a restaurant waitress (22, France), living with her widowed mother and younger sister in 1950.
Monique was Ken’s second wife, who moved from Redwood Valley to Willits after his death.

Monique Samuels
Born in Paris in 1928 to her American father and French mother, Monique spent her early years in France, then emigrated to the United States with her family at the age of 6, eventually settling in San Francisco, her father’s birthplace.
She did a little modeling in her early 20s, and then became an instructor at the House of Charm School where she had studied. She married Ken Samuels in 1951, a police officer in San Francisco. Even after moving to Redwood Valley in the 1970s, she continued to organize and run fashion shows for department stores in San Francisco.
They moved to Willits in 1987, and after Ken’s, death Monique became a well-loved, witty cashier at Mendo Mill, where she worked for over 20 years. Her participation in the choir of Saint Anthony of Padua’s Catholic Church was a dedicated commitment, which she kept into her 90s.
She is survived by her sister, Jackie Marr, and by her nieces Annette Jarvie Odegaard, Elizabeth Jarvie, Desiree Adair, and Renee Marr, and many great-nieces and great-nephews who loved her.

Born in Mary's Help Hospital 11 Sep, 1923 at 12:45 AM as Kenneth Samuels. His parents were Herbert Samuels (26) b. CA, a laborer, and Marie English (24) b. Illinois, a housewife, who were living at 181A 14th St. He was their 4th child, all of whom were living.
Cathy said he was adopted by his aunt & uncle because his parents already had 3 older children that they could not afford to care for. However, SF Chronicle article shows that his parents divorced due to bigamy by his father. He was adopted and raised by John Arthur and Mary Gertrude (Murphy) Samuels. Gertrude was later remarried to Robert (Bob) Carton.
He servied in the Navy during WWII (26 Sep 1942 - 24 Nov 1945). Then married Tosca, with whom he had John and Cathy.
In 1950, he (26, CA) is a SF Police Officer and Tosca (24, CA) are married with children John (4), and Cathy (2 mos).
He was divorced in 1951 and shortly later remarried to Monique Jarvie. Listed as city police in 1953 SF City Directory at 1230 Hyde #12. Was Asst Deputy Chief of Police in San Francisco (26 yrs) before retiring to Redwood Valley near Ukiah, CA.
He died of an aneuryism in the stomach area.

Kenneth Samuels
WILLTTS - Inurnment will be private for Kenneth Joseph Samuels, 63, who died Aug. 23 at Howard Memorial Hospital. Viewing is today from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Anker-Lucier Mortuary. Samuels was born Sept. 11, 1923 in San Francisco. A retired San Francisco police officer, Samuels made his home in Redwood Valley for several years, moving to Willits about six months ago. He had served with the San Francisco Police Department for 26 years, and was a lieutenant at the time of his retirement. Although he had only resided in Willits a short time. he had been active here eight years. He was past president of the Willits Kiwanis Club and past lieutenant governor of Kiwanis International. He was a member of the Retired Peace Officers Association of Northern California and past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy and recipient of two Purple Hearts. Surviving him are his wife, Monique Samuels of Willits; a son, John Samuels of Ohio; a daughter, Cathy Samuels of Colorado and five grandchildren. The family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Kiwanis Scholarship Fund.
